A rotary damper helps protect the fireplace from burning and fire damage by reducing the draught in the chimney. It regulates the air and can be adjusted when and how you wish. If you want to retain the heat longer after you have finished burning, you can close the damper. The heat will then remain and not be vented through the flue.
